This poster for West Virginia University’s Canady Chamber Series was designed to capture the energy and elegance of the event. Using a bold typographic layout, a rich color palette, and dynamic layering, the design blends classical sophistication with modern vibrancy, reflecting the unique sound of Time for Three.
My Process
Concept & Research
I started by researching classical music event posters and identifying key visual elements that convey refinement and professionalism. Since this event features Time for Three, a contemporary-classical trio, I wanted to blend tradition with modern energy in the design.
Typography & Layout
The typography became the focal point of the design. I used a mix of serif and sans-serif typefaces to create contrast and visual hierarchy, giving the composition a dynamic yet structured look. The overlapping arrangement adds movement and depth, reinforcing the layered nature of chamber music performances.
Color & Contrast
I chose a deep purple background for a rich, sophisticated tone, contrasted with warm beige and vibrant red-orange for high readability and impact. This creates a timeless yet contemporary feel, perfect for the series’ branding.
Graphic Elements & Final Adjustments
To add structure and a sense of rhythm, I incorporated subtle background elements, like the angled lines, which subtly reference music notation and movement. After refining alignment, kerning, and spacing, I ensured the design was balanced and visually engaging.
